With a deep respect for what police officers do for this country and having done the job for over a decade, this blog was started with the goal of bridging the “gap” between police officers and the rest of society. We hope to offer a point of view through the eyes of a police officer about incidents that happen and police related topics in general. Most police officers can’t voice their opinions publicly due to department rules or policies, that is where we come in. For those who have never walked the streets wearing a bullet proof vest and a badge, it’s impossible to know what these men and women go through on a daily basis. We will strive to provide this vantage point and show you what it’s like to walk along the thin blue line.
Drawing from personal experience and training obtained over 12 years with the Dallas Police Department, we plan to discuss important issues affecting police officers such as, alcohol abuse, divorce rates, suicide, and other topics that are relevant to the police officer of today.
Right, wrong, or otherwise, this page will strive to offer an officer’s perspective, create dialogue or “food for thought” when incidents take place. Maybe you will agree, maybe you’ll disagree, either way, we hope to offer a point of view from someone who “has been in those shoes.” At the very least, we hope our readers walk away from reading our articles with more understanding and hopefully more respect for what these men and women endure on a daily basis. We are all in this together.
Stay safe and take care,
The Officer Next Door
